Mick Quinn “If this Chinese consortium comes in and takes over, who knows? Rafa might not be there, they might bring their own Manager in.”

Mick Quinn has been discussing the reports of a potential Chinese takeover at St James Park.

The NUFC cult hero reacting to an exclusive from Sky Sports on Monday night, which claimed Mike Ashley was seriously considering selling the club after a Chinese consortium had approached him.

Widespread media reports have followed, with also claims that Ashley might sell only part of the club, whilst others claim that it could be an outright £400m sale.

Mick Quinn says that he and other Newcastle fans have worries about whether any sale of the club could upset the momentum that promotion back to the Premier League has given the club.

The former Newcastle player saying ‘I still pinch myself that Rafa Benitez is Newcastle United Manager’.

Quinn speculates that new owners might even get rid of Rafa and have their own idea of who would be Manager, giving that as a potential reason as to why Newcastle fans might prefer the ‘devil (Mike Ashley) they know’.

This is surely crazy talk because if anybody did buy Newcastle United, they would be wanting to make money and the only way that can happen is if the club is successful.

The only reason the club is on ‘calm waters’, that promotion was achieved at the first time of asking, and why fans have optimism – is because of the presence of Rafa Benitez.

So why would new owners instantly want to get rid of the only positive driving force at the club?

Mick Quinn speaking on Talksport:

“Newcastle back in the big time, more attractive, will he (Mike Ashley) sell now?

“At £400m I think Newcastle are worth that.

“I mean, the corporate side is unbelievable, two tiers right the way around the ground, fifty two thousand there every week, they are in the Premier League – the money that comes with the Premier League.

“My feel from what I have got on social media and stuff from the fans is, they are unsure.

“At this moment, the ship Newcastle United is on calm waters. Everybody is happy, they are back in the Premier League.

“Rafa Benitez is still our Manager, I still pinch myself that Rafa Benitez is Newcastle United Manager.

“So at the moment there’s not much controversy at Newcastle United – but the worry for the fans is that if this Chinese consortium comes in and takes over, who knows?

“Rafa might not be there, they might bring their own Manager in.

“It might upset the rhythm of the club at the moment. For once in Ashley’s tenure, there has been nothing controversial in the last year or so.

“So is it better the devil you know?”
